How To Save On Fuel

With gas price inflation showing no signs of ceasing any time soon, the subject of saving Gas has become significant for automobilists and vehicle owners. Here are some basic techniques that will help you conserve gas and maximize your gas mileage:

Design and combine your trips. Avoid areas with heavy traffic congestion, and try to take short routes to your destination. Try to combine several trips into one rather than making several different trips, since every single start of an engine consumes more gas.

Try to refuel early in the morning or late at night. Petrol contracts and becomes denser during cold climates, and you will end up getting more for your money, as opposed to refueling when the climate is hot, where gas tends to expand and fill more space with less density.

Drive more efficiently. Unnecessary swerves produce friction and wind resistance, which stresses the engine and makes it use more gas for power. Adjust your driving way for maximum fuel efficiency, such as accelerating before going up a hill, not WHILE you’re going up the hill. Anticipate the traffic and employ slow steady acceleration and braking. Maintain a constant speed. If you drive a manual don’t keep the vehicle in too low of a gear. High revs equals more fuel usage.

Try to avoid using the vehicle itself as much as possible. If your destination is only a couple of blocks away and you’re not in a hurry, you can just ride a bike or walk instead of using your vehicle. This will not only save fuel but will also do wonders for the environment as well as improve your health.

Choose the right vehicle. When buying a new vehicle examine the automobiles rated fuel efficiency. Smaller automobiles weigh less and would need a smaller engine which most of the time have better gas mileage. Having a manual transmission is better. Also consider selling your automobiles for a more fuel efficient one.

Remove excess weight in your automobiles, and in your abs :) The more weight the automobiles has the more work the engine needs to do.

Service Vehicle Regularly. Dirty air filter will rob you of gas mileage. Regular oil changes are also important. Dirty oil contains sludge and particles that increase friction in the engine and requires more power to run. This is also true of transmissions and differentials, both manual and automatic. Always check your tire pressure. It’s best to check it prior to driving.

Turn off what you can. Turning off things that put a load on your engine will give you a better mileage. Consider shutting off the air conditioner, opening the windows and enjoying the breeze. It may be a tad warmer, but at lower speeds you’ll save fuel. That said, at higher speeds the A/C may be more efficient than the wind resistance from open windows and sunroof.

Convert your car to run partly on HHO. It’s easy, in fact I made one for my Toyota Cressida.
